STOP HIV- Stick To One Partner Campaign

The Tshepang Trust has embarked on a campaign that seeks to address this phenomenon. The campaign is called STOP HIV  Stick To One Partner. Underpinning this campaign is a broader Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Strategy known as e = mc2, (an analogy taken from Albert Einstein theory on relativity) that focuses on empowerment of women, male reaffirmation in order to accelerate efforts on reducing further spread of HIV infections (c┬) in line with the South African National Strategic Plan (NSP) on HIV and AIDS to prevent HIV transmissions by 50% in 2011.

The STOP HIV – Stick To One Partner HIV Campaign further expands on the global HIV prevention strategy of ABC by promoting:

Abstinence, Be faithful, Compassionate, caring intimacy, one safe relationship by emphasizing the B message as an imperative message of survival whilst adding D and E as integral part of this campaign.

D, stands for disclosure on a limited basis (particularly to support structures e.g. partners, spouses, family members and close relationships) for the HIV infected and promoting positive prevention whilst E stands for early detection and diagnosis through routine testing and counseling.

The STOP campaign is targeted at all sexually active and potentially sexually active individuals including ordinary community members.

The STOP message

  • Seeks to change people’s behavior and mindset and instills the need to survive in people’s minds
  • Encourages people to take charge of their own lives, have a will to survive by protecting themselves and those they love from contracting HIV.
  • involve and engage people at an individual level through meaningful dialogue on pertinent issues that affect them in terms of HIV prevention.
